EULOGY FOR LATE RT. HON. ORIYOMI ADEWUNMI ONANUGA (IJAYA)
We gather today in profound sorrow and reflection, united by the
heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our own, Rt. Hon. Oriyomi
Adewunmi Onanuga, affectionately known to us as Ijaya. Our hearts
are heavy as we express our deepest sympathy to our beloved
Governor, her mother, family members, and all those who were
privileged to have known and loved her.
Oriyomi was not just a Representative of the Ikene/Sagamu/Remo
North Federal Constituency; she was a beacon of hope, a voice for the
voiceless, and a relentless advocate for change. Her dedication to
public service was unparalleled, and her commitment to the betterment
of our communities was evident in every action she took. As the Deputy
Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly, she demonstrated not only
leadership but also an unwavering resolve to uplift those around her.
In her presence, we witnessed a remarkable blend of versatility and
intelligence. Oriyomi was energetic, fearless, and yet, in her humility,
she was unassuming. Her laughter was contagious, and her warmth drew
people in, making them feel valued and respected. She was not just a
politician; she was a friend, a mentor, and a source of inspiration to many.
Oriyomi's passion for women's emancipation was a testament to her
character and vision for a better society. She fought tirelessly for the
rights of women and girls, advocating for their empowerment until her
last breath. Her legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those she
touched, igniting a spark in future generations to continue the fight
for equality and justice.
As we stand here today, we remember her not just for her accolades
and achievements but for the values she embodied—compassion,
integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. She was
a leader of excellence, and her contributions will forever be etched in
the annals of our state’s history.
To our Governor, the family, and all those mourning her loss, know that
you do not stand alone. We, the Ogun State Caucus of the House of
Representatives, stand beside you in solidarity and support. Let us honor Oriyomi's memory by continuing the work she so passionately believed in. Let us carry forward her vision and strive to make our communities better, just as she would have wanted.
Rest in peace, dear IJAYA. Your legacy will live on in our hearts and in
the lives of all you have inspired. We will miss you dearly, but we shall
continue to uphold the values you championed and ensure that your
contributions to our society are never forgotten.
Thank you.
