Twenty lives lost as passenger boats capsize in Lagos



 At least twenty people have reportedly lost their lives after two passenger boats capsized in the Imore Lagoon, Lagos.


The tragic accident occurred on Monday night around 7 PM when the boats, each carrying 16 passengers, collided under unclear circumstances.


According to police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the unregistered boats were involved in a collision that resulted in the capsizing of both vessels.


He confirmed that a total of 32 passengers were aboard the boats at the time of the accident, and all of them, along with their goods, drowned when the vessels capsized.


“Eleven of the passengers were rescued by police, local divers, and other emergency responders,” Hundeyin stated.


He said those rescued sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to the Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for medical treatment.


He added that the ongoing search and rescue operations are currently focused on locating the remaining victims of this tragic event.
